What made you choose Longwood?
I chose Longwood because it was small, close to home and my first impression was Longwood had a tight, community feel. I did not feel like a stranger on campus. It felt like home.
What do you miss most about Longwood?
While at Longwood, I learned something new each day. I miss both the academics and social aspects, all of the new experiences, building new relationships, learning new points of view, etc. I miss the time I spent working in the Commuter Student Office with Susan Monahan and the time in the lounge with all the other Commuter Students. All the Longwood events, activities and all the fun; especially Oktoberfest.
What is your favorite memory from your time at Longwood?
My favorite memory is during my last semester (Summer 2001), I served as an intern with Dr. Eric Laws assisting him with setting-up a psychology laboratory space in the old Wynn Building. The Psychology Dept. still refers to us that summer as the Laws and Lee moving company.
If there is one event you could go back and re-live from your time at Longwood, what would it be?
It would be Oktoberfest 1999 when the Commuter Student Association wonfirst place in the parade that year. The theme was “Let Your Blue Shine Through” and we filled my white VW Jetta with blue balloons, placed it on a trailer, and pulled it in the parade. We also had someone dress up as a lancer and sit on top through the sunroof. I was also a spirit leader and danced in the lederhosen that year. It was GREAT!
Who was your favorite professor?
Dr. Eric Laws
Do you have any advice for recent graduates?
Embrace every opportunity you will have in life because one opportunity will always lead to another. Each opportunity will be a learning experience and it only takes one opportunity to receive your life's reward.
You are Vice President of the Alumni Board, what do you do in that position?
My responsibilities as Vice-President require me to represent the Board at various functions, serve as liaison to the Foundation Board, attend meetings of the Alumni and Foundation Boards, serve in the absence of the Board President and preside over meetings as needed, serve as the Chairperson on the Board Relations Committee, and perform other duties as assigned by the Board President and Alumni Office.
How do you think your time at Longwood has impacted your life after graduation?
My time at Longwood taught me how to embrace every opportunity. Not only have I been prepared academically, Longwood taught me the importance of being involved and the value of staying connected, networking, etc. The most important lesson learned is the one of servant leadership. Being a servant leader has made me the person I am professionally and personally.
